The Chancellorsville Campaign was a series of military engagements in the Eastern Theater of the War from April 27-May 6, 1863. Union forces cross the Rappahannock River in an attempt to destroy Robert E. Lee's army and drive into Richmond, Virginia. General Lee splits his army and achieves what many consider to be a "perfect" victory, despite heavy losses, and drives Union forces back north.
