Henry W. Peck[1] was a Lieutenant Colonel in the 2nd Wisconsin Infantry.

Antebellum

  • Farmer from Jefferson Township, Monroe County, Wisconsin
  • Appointed from Ohio in 1851 to West Point Military Academy
  • Cadet for 2 years but did not graduate
  • Enlisted from Monroe, Green County, Wisconsin

War Career

  • April 29, 1861 - Appointed Lieutenant Colonel
  • June 11, 1861 - Mustered into federal service with unit
  • Drilled soldiers of the 2nd Wisconsin using manual approved by General Scott
  • Presented with a black horse named "Wild Bill," known for its speed by the citizens of Madison and Dane County
  • Promoted to field command of the 2nd Wisconsin when Squire Park Coon was named to personal staff of William Tecumseh Sherman
  • July 29, 1861 - Resigned commission
