Department of the Cumberland

Jump to navigationJump to searchThe Department of the Cumberland was a Union Military Department constituted on August 15, 1861 to include Kentucky and Tennessee. Its contents were split and merged into the Department of Missouri and the Department of Ohio on November 9, 1861. It was recreated on October 24, 1862 to include the portion of Tennessee east of the Tennessee River and the portions of Alabama and Georgia as may be taken possession of by Union forces.
