STATE LINE
In addition to regular garrison and patrol duty, Georgia Governor Joseph E. Brown used the State Militia to enforce the rights of his citizens and his state by preventing conscription into the Confederate States armies. Later however, these troops would help to resist Sherman's advances in the Atlanta Campaign and the Savannah Campaign.
