Jump to navigationJump to searchThe Army of Virginia was a Union Army constituted on June 26, 1862 to consist of the forces under Major General Fremont's Mountain Department, Major General Banks' Department of the Shenandoah, Major General McDowell's Department of the Rappahannock, and the forces at Washington, D.C. under Brigadier General Sturgis. It was merged into the Department of the Potomac on September 2, 1862,
