Regimental History and Service Record

Organized at Greensburg, Terre Haute and Indianapolis, Ind., December 25, 1863, to March 7, 1864. Left State for Nashville, Tenn., March 18, 1864. Attached to 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 23rd Army Corps, Army of the Ohio, to June, 1864. 4th Brigade, 3rd Division, 23rd Army Corps, to August, 1864. 3rd Brigade, 2nd Division, 23rd Army Corps, to December, 1864. 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 23rd Army Corps, Army of the Ohio, to February, 1865, and Dept. of North Carolina to August, 1865.

SERVICE.--March to Charleston, Tenn., April 7-24, 1864.

Nashville Campaign November-December. In front of Columbia November 24-27. Battle of Franklin November 30. Battle of Nashville December 15-16. Pursuit of Hood to the Tennessee River December 17-28. At Clifton, Tenn., until January 15, 1865. Movement to Washington, D.C.; thence to Morehead City, N. C., January 15-February 24.

    • Battle of Wise's Forks March 6-8.
    • Kinston March 14.

      • Surrender of Johnston and his army.
  • Duty at Charlotte and Raleigh, N. C., until August.
  • Mustered out August 25, 1865.
