Organized at New Orleans, La., February 10, 1863. Attached to 1st Division, 19th Army Corps, Dept. Gulf, to June, 1863.
SERVICE.--Duty in the Defences of New Orleans, La., until March, 1863, and at Baton Rouge, La., until May. Siege of Port Hudson May 24-July 9. Assaults on Port Hudson May 27, and June 14. Designation of Regiment changed to 4th Regiment, Corps de Afrique, June 6, 1863.
