LOCKETT, H. R. - Hugh R. Lockett was born 22-Apr-1839 in GA, married Isabel Veazey 06-Oct-1864. Hugh was a minister and served as a cook in Co.A. He returned to Tallapoosa County, moved to Grayson County, Texas in December 1876. He died 16-Feb-1917 and Isabel died on 25-Feb-1913. They are buried in the Tioga Cemetery in Grayson County, TX. Found in Grayson County, TX on 1880 census.

Enlisted in the 5th U.S. Volunteer Infantry (frontier service) at Camp Douglas, Illinois, April 18, 1865. Service record National Archive Microfilm Box M374 Roll 39 (See 1907 Alabama Confederate Pensioner's Census, Tallapoosa County). Died 04-Sep-1924. Buried Concord Garden of Memories, Tallapoosa County AL Find-A-Grave Memorial #40072342 (George Thomas Scroggins (Richard M., James) was born 29Nov1844 in Georgia, and died 04Sep1924 in the home of daughter, Mrs. J.N. Brewer (formerly Mary Emma Scroggins---did she marry Jesse Brewer of Co. A?). He married Mary Jane Henderson 21-Oct-1868 in Tallapoosa Co. AL, daughter of Alvin Henderson and Lucinda Duck. George was the son of Richard M. Scroggins and Judiah Allen Scroggins. His father-in-law, Alvin Henderson, fought in Co. G, 34th AL Infantry . His wife's uncle, William M. Duck, served in Co. A 1st AL Infantry, while her other uncles, R.A.W. Duck and Manning L. Duck were in Co. G of the 34th AL. Enlisted as private, Company A, First Alabama Infantry at Dadeville, AL. Was a P.O.W. of the U.S. Army. After the war he nearly starved during his walk back home. His obituary states he served 4 years in the Confederate War. Burial: Concord Cemetery (County Hwy44, Tallapoosa Co.AL) per Tap Roots Vol.24 #4, April 1987. Military service: Co A, First Alabama Inf., CSA - 5th US Volunteer Infantry?)

SCROGGINS, W. M. ( Washington Marlin, brother of JJ and GT Scroggins? - Captured circa 1864. No further record. (service records per Greg Wilson gwilson@dixie-net.com>) Died 6 May 1916, buried Hayden Cemetery, New Hope, AL. (Thomas Hensley <tojo@hitter.net> has a Washington Marlin Scroggins, son of Judy (Judiah Allen Scroggins and Richard M) listed in the 1860 Tallapoosa Co AL Census (Washington M, age 14). WM Scroggins, of New Hope, Madison Co. AL, was awarded the Southern Cross of Honor by the UDC.1870 Madison Co AL census lists "Wash and Pemmelia Scroggins" age 23, 20. All this strongly suggests that "WM" was the brother of George T Scroggins and James J Scroggins in Company A.
