Regimental History and Service Record
Organized from 1st Alabama (Colored) Siege Artillery (U). Designated 6th Heavy Artillery March 11, 1864, and 7th Heavy Artillery April 26, 1864. Attached to District of Memphis, Tenn., 16th Corps, Dept. of Tennessee, to June, 1864. Memphis, Tenn., District of West Tennessee, to January, 1865.
SERVICE.--Garrison duty at Fort Pickering and in Defenses of Memphis, Tenn., until January, 1865. Companies "A," "B," "C" and "D" garrison at Fort Pillow, Tenn., and in massacre April 12, 1864. Skirmish at Pulaski May 18. Holly Springs, Miss., August 28, 1864. Designated (II) 11th United States (Colored) Infantry January 23, 1865.
