  • CHANCELLORSVILLE CAMPAIGN - Confederate forces under Robert E. Lee drive Union forces out of Chancellorsville in Virginia. Ten miles to the east, Sedgewick's 6th Corps crosses the Rappahannock River, takes the city of Fredericksburg, and marches west to reinforce the rest of the Army of the Potomac. Sedgewick's Corps is halted south of Bank's Ford at Salem Church and driven back across the river. Union forces will spend the next few days retreating as General Lee secures one of his greatest victories of the war at great cost to the Confederacy.
