Jump to navigationJump to searchThe Department of Northeastern Virginia was a Union Military Department constituted on May 27, 1861. It consisted of the portion of Virginia East of the Alleghany Mountains and north of the James River, but not including Fort Monroe and the area 60 miles around it. It was merged into the Department of the Potomac on July 25, 1861.[1]

- ↑ ACWR 0271 and 0272 say the end date is August 17, but ACWR 0255 says July 25. This date is more consistent with the other transfers, so it has been left this way for now.
- ↑ No mention of this in unit histories on ACWR 1690-1691. Most companies still in New Mexico.
