Battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia - Multiple units engage at Chancellorsville in Spotsylvania County, Virginia from May 1-May 5, 1863. Union troops hammer at Confederate forces for five days, but General Robert E. Lee masterfully outmaneuvers them. Both sides suffer heavy casualties and Lee loses one of his best officers, "Stonewall" Jackson.
