- "Climbed to the roof of his moving car to stand and return the salutes of his the crowd at the station...when he was struck and knocked off the train by the beam of a bridge" on the regiment's way from Mifflin, Pennsylvania to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
- Daily Wisconsin of June 21, 1861 reports "He was shaken up considerably, but not fatally injured and is now doing fine"
- Discharged on August 22, 1861 for disability
