- February 27, 1865 - Officially recognized by the War Department designated 4th Virginia (Reserve) Infantry per Adjutant and Inspector General's Office / Special Order #48
- April 12, 1865 - Disbanded at Christianburg, Virginia by Brigadier General John Echols, commanding the Department of Southwestern Virginia and East Tennessee
