Companies "G," "H," "I" and "K" organized at Camp Utley, Racine, Wis., and mustered in December 24, 1862. Companies "A," "D" and "F" ordered to Madison, Wis., November 14. Companies "B," "C" and "E" ordered to Racine, Wis., November 14, as guard for draft rendezvous. Companies "A," "D" and "F" moved to Racine December 20. Regiment ordered to Columbus, Ky., March 1, 1863. Attached to District of Columbus, Ky., 6th Division, 16th Army Corps, Dept. of the Tennessee, to October, 1863. Unattached, Dept. of the Cumberland, to November, 1863. Post of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Dept. of the Cumberland, to January, 1864. 2nd Brigade, Rousseau's 3rd Division, 12th Army Corps, Dept. of the Cumberland, to April, 1864. Unattached, 4th Division, 20th Army Corps, Dept. of the Cumberland, to July, 1864. 3rd Brigade, 1st Division, 20th Army Corps, Army of the Cumberland, to July, 1865.
SERVICE.--Duty at Columbus, Ky., March 6-September 24, 1863. Moved to Cairo, Ill., Louisville, Ky., and Nashville, Tenn., September 24-27, thence moved to Lavergne October 5, and railroad guard duty there until October 25. Moved to Murfreesboro, Tenn., October 25, and duty there until April, 1864. Companies "B," "G" and "K" detached at Stone's River Grossing, guarding railroad bridge and building fortifications, until April 2, 1864. Assigned to duty by Detachments, guarding Nashville & Chattanooga Railroad from Normandy to Murfreesboro, until June. Regiment ordered to Murfreesboro, thence to Nashville, Tenn., June 6-10, and provost and guard duty there until July 16. Moved to Atlanta, Ga., July 16-21.
