Organized at St. Paul, Minn., November 23, 1861, to March 17, 1862, and mustered in March 20, 1862. Moved to Washington, D.C., April 21-26, 1862, thence to Virginia Peninsula May 3-5. Attached to 1st U. S. Sharpshooters as Company "I" until May 30, 1862. Assigned to duty with 1st Minnesota Infantry, May 30 to November 23, 1863. Attached to 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, 2nd Army Corps, Army of the Potomac.
SERVICE.--New Bridge May 24, 1862. Operations about Hanover Court House May 27-29. Joined 1st Minnesota Infantry June 3. Seven days before Richmond June 25-July 1. Peach Orchard, Allen's Farm, and Savage Station June 29. White Oak Swamp and Glendale June 30. Malvern Hill July 1 and August 5. At Harrison's Landing until August 16. Moved to Alexandria August 16-28, thence march to Centerville August 30. Cover Pope's retreat to Washington, D.C., September 1-2. Near Chantilly and Flint Hill September 1. Vienna September 2. Maryland Campaign September 6-22. Battles of South Mountain September 14. Antietam September 16-17. Moved to Harper's Ferry September 22, and duty there until October 30.
