- March 10, 1862 - Organized in Botetourt County, Virginia as a heavy artillery company for the war
- Intended to be assigned to the proposed (Harris') Virginia Heavy Artillery Battalion, but that unit failed to complete organization
- June 21, 1862 - Disbanded per Adjutant and Inspector General's Office / Special Order #143
- Some of the men transferred to the 20th Virginia Heavy Artillery Battalion
- The rest of the men transferred to the light artillery
- NOTE: This unit does not appear in the Official Records series
