The Richmond Campaign

The Richmond Campaign was a series of military engagements in the Eastern Theater of the War from June 13, 1864-April 3, 1865.

Union Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant seeks to put the Union Army of the Potomac between General Robert E. Lee and the Confederate capital at Richmond, Virginia. Grant hopes his superior numbers in open battle will be enough to overcome Lee, but a surprise attack by Lee sets the tone for the rest of the campaign. Movement after movement is made to work around Lee's left flank and every time Lee beats Grant to the next battlefield. Despite heavy casualties, Grant edges closer to achieving the ultimate Union objective.
