Engagement at White Oak Swamp, Virginia - The Battle of White Oak Swamp (Bridge) took place on June 30, 1862 in Henrico County, Virginia as the fourth of the Seven Days Battles of the the Peninsula Campaign. The rearguard of the retreating Army of the Potomac, under Major General William B. Franklin, halts "Stonewall" Jackson's divisions at the White Oak Bridge crossing while the larger battle of Glendale rages farther south (though some consider these actions to be the same engagement). The action proved enough for Union troops to slip away from advancing Confederates and assume a strong defensive position the next day
