Engagement at Glendale, Virginia
Engagement at Glendale, Virginia
- The Battle of Glendale took place on June 30, 1862, in Henrico County, Virginia. It is considered to be the sixth of the Seven Days Battles
of the the Peninsula Campaign
. The Confederate divisions of Major Generals Benjamin Huger, James Longstreet, and A.P. Hill converge on the retreating Union Army in the vicinity of Glendale or Frayser's Farm. Longstreet's and Hill's attacks penetrate the Union defense near Willis Church. Huger's advance is stopped on the Charles City Road. The divisions led by Major General "Stonewall" Jackson are delayed by Brigadier General William B. Franklin's corps at White Oak Swamp. The Union army slips away and establishes a strong position on Malvern Hill.
